It is that time of the year where we look back and reflect. You can make your resolutions and goals in a couple of weeks, but for now, let’s look back of all that you have accomplished, the good and especially the bad. Look back at 2016 and see how you can become a better version of yourself. This means that you will have to dedicate some time and energy on the process.
Your life will not automatically change on it’s own. I truly believe and know for a fact that there is divine intervention; however, you will still have to do the work. The work obviously isn’t easy, but taking it slow, following your intuition, and asking for help will definitely make the process easier. You absolutely deserve to be that best version of yourself and as a result, you will be happier.
Looking at those difficult situations that you encountered throughout the year is a great place to start. Those times of hurt feelings, destroyed relationships, failures, and mistakes are our biggest teachers. We can learn so much from those experiences but you must be completely and utterly honest with yourself, otherwise you will not learn anything. Admit the part you played, it is your life after all.
There are several exercises that you can do to walk you through those negative patterns in your life. I would suggest writing a list of those negative behaviors you encountered or displayed, then write the outcome you would have liked to happen. Next, list ways to achieve those outcomes.
This is just one small example of how you can reflect on your life from 2016. Have your goals and resolutions touch on those areas you identified during your reflection to make yourself a better person in 2017.
